CANADA’S NATIONAL SLEDGE TEAM TO MEET THE 
UNITED STATES IN GOLD MEDAL GAME AT 2009 WORLD 
SLEDGE HOCKEY CHALLENGE

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – Canada’s National Sledge Team has advanced to the gold medal game at the 2009 World Sledge Hockey Challenge.

Canada, which concluded the round robin on Thursday with a 5-0 victory over Japan at the CARI Complex, will face the United States in Saturday’s final (TSN2/RDS at 2 p.m. AT). Canada finished atop the standings at 3-0, followed by the United States at 2-1, Japan at 1-2 and Norway at 0-3. In Thursday’s other game, the United States defeated Norway 3-0. Norway and Japan will meet in the bronze medal game on Saturday.

Greg Westlake (Oakville, Ont.) had a hat trick for Canada on Thursday against Japan, scoring one goal in the second period and two in the third. Jeremy Booker (Ajax, Ont.) got things started for Canada at the 1:17 mark of the first period with his first goal of the tournament, and Brad Bowden (Orton, Ont.) scored at 14:40 of the first. Benoit St-Amand (St-Hubert, Que.) and Corbin Watson (Kingsville, Ont.) split the shutout in net.

Canada will meet the United States for the sixth time this season, having won three of the first five meetings. Canada is the two-time defending World Sledge Hockey Challenge gold medalist.

Tickets for the final day of the 2009 World Sledge Hockey Challenge are available through the CARI Complex box office at (902) 569-4584. Saturday’s schedule starts with the bronze medal game at 10:30 a.m. AT, followed by the gold medal game at 2 p.m. AT. The bronze medal game on Saturday is available via webcast at http://hockeycanada.fasthockey.com.

The gold medal game will be shown on TSN2 and RDS. Check local listings for broadcast times in your area.
